A baseball payoff is a little trickier to figure than the traditional pointspread payoff in football or basebal, due to the money lines involved.
For payoffs on the underdog, the formula used is payoff=1 + underdog price. For example, if the Marlins are +120 in a game where the Mets are favored 130, the underdog payoff is 1+1.2=2.2. In other words, for every $100 bet on the Marlins, the bettor receives $220.
Favorite payoffs are figured by the following formula: the payoff=(1 + favorite price)/(favorite price). Using the example above, the Mets at 130 would return $176.92, figured this way: payoff=(1 + 1.3)/1.3=2.3/1.3=1.7692.
